Pillow Boxes for Gifting

We've fallen in love with the shape of these cute pillow boxes. They may look hard to make by hand, but they're actually quite simple. Try making one in a pattern and size to match your gift.

You will need...

  • Design paper printed on A4 size paper (we recommend a thick, sturdy paper such as Matte Paper Heavy weight/Premium Presentation Paper Matte)
  • Ribbons, stickers, etc. for decorating

  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Plate or cup
  • Pencil
  • Toothpick or other pointed object

Before you start

  • Make sure you have your design paper ready in advance.
  • Don't forget, you can print design paper using the smartphone app "Epson Creative Print". If your model comes with a design paper option built in, you can print it straight from the printer.

How to

  1. Let's try making a pillow box that's about 10 x 27 cm.
First lay the design paper sideways, fold the upper and lower parts so that they overlap in the middle by about 1 cm, and then glue the overlapping part together.
  1. Align the plate with the edge of the paper as shown in the picture, and draw a rounded line along the edge with a pen or pencil. A plate with a diameter of about 23 cm was used in the picture, however, using a large plate will produce a slim box, and using a small plate will produce a thick box.
  1. Cut along the line and remove the edge.
  2. To make a fold in the rounded shape of the lines, first line up the plate with the two round points at the top and bottom.
  1. Make a line along the edge of the plate with a toothpick or other pointed object. Make a clearly defined line. Make lines in the same two locations on the backside, as well, in the same manner.
  1. A clearly defined line.
  1. Fold along the line, folding toward the inside.
  2. Fold both sides in the same way.
  1. Fold the other side just the same, and it's finished!

—Style 1—

Try making them with paper of different widths and lengths to match the gifts you'll be putting inside. You can make boxes with a variety of shapes.

—Style 2—

You can make a large box by gluing two pieces of paper together. Combine different patterns for a dazzling impression!

—Style 3—

Making a slim box by using a larger plate to shape and fold the ends is a good approach when gifting a handkerchief.

—Style 4—

Use a small plate or cup to shape and fold the ends when you want to make a long, narrow box that's thick enough to hold a pen or similar item.
