Memory Collection Frame

Use some empty boxes to make some shadow box style wall frames. Decorate by placing small treasures like flowers, shells, and crafts made with your children inside.

You will need...

Materials:

  • Design paper printed on fairly sturdy A4 size paper (we recommend "Photo Matte Paper" or "Double-Sided Photo Quality Inkjet Paper")
  • Empty boxes (Ones that have a top and bottom that can be opened. Refer to the picture.)
  • Items to place inside
  • Thumbtacks

Tools

  • Pencil
  • Cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Scissors or any other cutting instrument
  • Double-sided tape
  • Glue or other adhesive

Before you start

  • Make sure you have your design paper ready in advance.
  • Don't forget, you can print design paper using the smartphone app "Epson Creative Print". If your model comes with a design paper option built in, you can print it straight from the printer.

How to

1 Cutting the design paper
  1. Place the box on the design paper and trace its shape with a pen.
2
  1. Cut about 2cm outside of this shape. This will be used for the frame.
  1. Cut the design paper to a size that just fits the inside of the box. This will be used for the background of the inside of the box.
2 Making the frame
  1. Using the cutter, cut diagonally from corner to corner inside of the box shape drawn on the paper to be used for the frame (as shown with dotted lines in the picture).
  2. Attach double-sided tape to the blue areas shown in the picture. Be sure not to peel off the remaining tape backing.
5
  1. Fold along the outline to create an opening as shown in the picture.
6
  1. Place it on the box to make the proper creases.
  2. Remove the backing paper from the double-sided tape on the tips of the flaps and attach them to the box.
3 Decorating the inside
  1. Attach double-sided tape to the top and bottom of the back of the paper for the background. Be sure not to peel off the remaining tape backing.
  2. Attach the decoration to the front with adhesive. Use a glue or adhesive suitable for the material of the decoration.
8
  1. Remove the backing paper from the double sided tape on the back, and attach it to the bottom of the box.
4 Attaching the thumbtack to the back side
  1. Attach some double-sided tape to the upper part of the back side of the box. Peel off the backing paper and attach the thumbtack.
10
  1. The thumbtack is attached as-is.
  2. Cut a piece of the remaining design paper into a square a bit larger than the size of the thumbtack, attach double-sided tape to the back, and attach it so that it covers the thumbtack.
  3. The thumbtack is now fixed to the box. If the box is big, or the decoration inside is a bit heavy, increase the number of thumbtacks fixed to the back or use a double-sided tape with a stronger adhesive.
5 Methods of affixing items
Use paper butterflies made with the kids for a charming interior.
12 First, attach an eraser to the bottom of the box.
13 Put the background paper over it, and fasten the butterfly with an insect pin.

—Style 1—

Place some twigs or dry flowers center stage!

When using a bottle, put some adhesive on the bottom and attach it to the frame.

We recommend decorating with some summer photos or memorabilia.

To give a bit of a three-dimensional feel, cut the background photo into a rectangle and bow it by attaching the ends to the edges of the frame.
